In and Out of Africa is an upcoming show with works from the Treger/Saint Silvestre Collection of Art Brut and Outsider Art.
In and Out of Africa presents more than 90 artworks, among which are paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, installations and assemblages by more than 50 artists. Many of those have never been exhibited before.
Its goal is to demonstrate rich means of expression of African, African-American, Haitian, Brazilian and Cuban Outsider artists and to re-remember that Africa has once been the cradle of Civilization.
Its geography has been chosen according to former Atlantic slave trades paths. Its aesthetics is that of excess, celebration, vibrance and insolence.
António Saint Silvestre, collector and curator of the show, has deep personal affection for expression that is rich in effect and poor in means, creation that is unconventional and inventive. Creation capable of proving that social status, country, diploma or skin color are of no importance, creation that manifests that Art Is Against Racism and Discrimination.
Patent in Núcleo de Arte da Oliva until april 7 2018.
